The Spaniard was deemed dispensable by Mourinho during their time together at Chelsea and he will look to sell him once more if he takes the Old Trafford managerial Job.
Jose Mourinho will look to offload Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini if he is successful in landing the Manchester United job this summer.
The Portuguese, who is said to have told close friends he is on the verge of a move to Old Trafford, will begin an exodus of the United squad by letting go of the pair, who cost £37m and £27.5m respectively.
Earlier reports revealed that Mourinho is gearing up for a close-season arrival at United and is increasingly confident he will succeed Louis Van Gaal unless the Dutchman is able to steer the Reds to a top-four finish.
Mourinho has reportedly informed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward of his wish to sell both players during a meeting, with Mata set to be sold by the Portuguese for a second time after he moved from Chelsea to United in January 2014.
He was heavily involved in the decision to let him go having considered him surplus to requirements for his Blues side and it now appears lightning will strike twice for Mata, who has only managed to impress on a intermittent basis for United since his move.
Fellaini’s future also appears bleak after his failure to make an impact since arriving from Everton and Mourinho is prepared to countenance the midfielder’s departure as he looks to make immediate adjustments to the Reds squad.
The report also suggests the Portuguese will be handed a substantial warchest to enhance his United squad ahead of the 2016/17 season and challenge Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal if he is given the green light to take charge.
