Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Champions league Vipers SC were knocked out of the competition after losing 2-0 to Nigeria’s Enyimba FC in the return match of preliminary round.
The Ugandan champions who took a 1-0 lead to Port Harcourt from the first leg played started well until danger man Mfon Udoh leveled the aggregate 1-1 in the 34th minute strike for the hosts.
However, prior to the game Vipers coach George Nsimbe had urged his charges to attack and score and increase their chances of making it to the next round.
Mike Mutyaba and Erisa Sekisambu had their work cut out by the solid Enyimba defense and the former was later subbed replacing him with forward Pius Wangi and John Ssemazzi also coming in for Patrick Sembuya.
Mfon Udoh doubled for Enyimba with a back heel in the 65th minute meaning Vipers needed to score a brace to make it past the Nigerians.
“We played according game plan but we were not lucky enough to get the deserved result,” Coach Nsimbe said.
This was Vipers’ maiden appearance in this campaign but will now turn their focus on winning a double, of the Azam Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup.
Enyimba will go on to face Burundi’s Vital’O in the first round next month.
Meanwhile Vipers are expected back in Uganda on Tuesday.
