According to family sources, High Court’s Family Division Judge, late Hon. Justice Jessica Naiga Ayebazibwe (53), who had been unwell and down for a while, had almost recovered and ready to resume her judicial duties.
Her daughter who works abroad planned to introduce her fiance to the family this weekend, so both the judge and the daughter spent the best part of Monday in town shopping in preparation for the visitors.
She returned to home from the shopping and happily displayed the things they bought to her husband and other family members.
She however, mentioned that she felt a bit tired and weak. She asked for a cup of tea, which she took and proceeded to her bed to take some rest.
The family members who went to check on her around 8pm realized she rested rather abnormally and decided to rush a helpless judge to Malcom Clinic near her home at Ndeeba in Kampala. She was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The body has been transferred to Mengo Hospital in Kampala for postmortem and management.
Both the family and her employer would meet on Tuesday morning to discuss the funeral arrangements.
According to some of her available records, Justice Naiga was born on 25th December 1965 and she joined the Judiciary as judge on 23rd April 2014. She has worked as Resident Judge Mbale (2014-15), Judge Land Division (2016) and Family Division (2018).
Prior to her judicial career, she had worked as a legal assistant with Bazire D’bango & Co. Advocates from 1992; Revenue Officer with Uganda Revenue Authority (1997-2007) and served as legal officer at the National Environment Management Authority (2007-2014).
She’s survived by a husband and three children.
