Lesotho beat Uganda 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in the 2019 COSAFA Cup quarter-final match at the Princess Magogo Stadium in South Africa on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, Likuena booked their place in the semi-finals, while the Cranes will take part in the plate semi-finals.

Likuena dominated the match from the start and Charles Lukwago was a busy man in the Cranes goal-posts

The goalkeeper made a good save to deny Basia Makepe at the near-post following a well-taken corner-kick by Tshwarelo Bereng.

Synous Masoabi was then sent through on goal, but his first-time shot was well saved by Lukwago.

Lesotho continued to pile pressure on the Cranes and Bereng’s deflected free-kick found Lukwago well-positioned and the latter made a save.

The last chance of the first-half fell for Tumelo Khutlang, whose header was easily gathered by Lukwago.

The score was 0-0 at the interval following a first-half which was dominated by Likuena, but they could not take their chances.

The two teams continued to attack each other as they looked to break the deadlock and Lesotho came very close to scoring through Bereng.

The creative midfielder’s thunderous shot beat Lukwago, but the upright came to Uganda’s rescue just after the hour-mark.

It was end-to-end stuff as Dan Sserunkuma unleashed a thunderous shot which was pushed on to the upright by Lesotho keeper Samuel Khetsekile.

Jane Thaba-Ntšo and Sera Motebang scored for Lesotho in the final 15 minutes of the game, but the two goals were disallowed for offside.

Ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 draw in regulation time and extra-time followed in the city of Durban.

Lesotho went on to win 3-2 on penalties after Man of the Match Khetsekile denied Uganda’s Paul Mucureezi from the spot-kick.
